Animal Smiley 036 Neutering question

I just acquired a retired champion show dog (Yorkie). He is a wonderful dog and is almost 5 years old. He was a stud that unfortunately was determined to be sterile. It was lucky for our family, needless to say. Otherwise he wouldn't have been re homed to my family. He's a leg lifter and likes to mark both inside and outside. My question is this: Will it be worth it to get him neutered at this point? Would you go ahead and get him neutered? I am concerned about the health risks of general anesthesia and the effect it might have on him. Will neutering effect his desire to mark? I believe it's important to spay and neuter our pets but he's well into adulthood and sterile. This was confirmed by my breeders vet. Any thoughts?
