Heartgard Plus and other heartworm preventatives should be in given in the full dose. Splitting the dose can render it ineffective according to the manufacturers because the active ingredient is not necessarily evenly distributed in the dose.
My boys are on the same one and I think the smallest dose is 10 pounds and under. They are bigger boys, so I understand your concern. I think Sentinel is the same way: 2 to 10 pounds.
I don't understand the need for the second dewormer since the HG Plus covers roundworms and hookworms too. I've read here of breeders doing both though.
