I've become paranoid of everything, wondering if it could have been in their food (Blue buffalo) but I'm pretty sure my husband or I would have seen it. It's bright blue-green. And one of the pieces they threw up was what looked to be a piece of a formed blue-green biscuit.

I hover over them wherever they go, but you're right about what you said in an other post: Sadly, no matter how much we care and watch and hover, things like this can happen. We're not omniscient.
The not knowing is terrible in both your case and Priscilla's.

Just thought of something else: there are so many ways things can end up in your yard. Wildlife can carry things in from other yards. We had little kids living next door who would randomly throw things in our yard, not meaning any harm. I've read here of problems both ways with corn cobs, for instance, which are dangerous to dogs. We used to put corn cobs out for the squirrels until we learned the dangers for people with dogs in other yards.
