The dose I have used, on advice of my vet is: 0.25 To 0.5 milligrams per pound dog weight, once or twice a day. So a 10 pound dog would need 2.5 to 5.0 milligrams once or twice a day. I found that splitting the 10 mg pill into quarters for my 10 pound dog is not that easy! For a smaller dog it would be even harder to split to the right dose. Perhaps the vet has smaller pills? But please ask the vet before giving the meds.
If you feel your dog cannot go for too long without food without getting a tummy, acid, attack, I suggest you tell the vet this fact. My vet said he would give my dog a shot of Pepcid( Famatodine) prior to dental surgery to keep the acid at bay. This worked very well and my dog was doing well and eating that night! It seems that sometimes vets do dentals later in the day and the poor fasting dog goes for ages without food!
Hoping your baby is doing well now and that the dental is trouble free too |
Thanks for the info. I called the vet and he said I can give him pepcid twice a day, didn't mention anything about the dose.
