Diets with higher fiber can help with anal gland issues. It's usually a food intolerance or allergic when anal gland issues are recurrent. I'd try higher fiber. You can crush up all bran cereal and add a little to the food. I read that on petdiets. You might want to go to that site and search anal glands in the ask the nutritionist section because she's talked about this in the context of diet.
