Speaking purely of male dog owners who won't neuter and who aren't into showing, frankly I feel it's themselves that has a problem with their own masculinity. How having a neutered dog makes them less of a man I'll never understand. But since there is a thing called "neuticles" obviously a lot of people feel this way. Having to put implants in your dog purely for cosmetic purposes even after you've done the right thing and had them fixed if beyond me. It's right up there with men not wanting to have a small dog bc it "makes them look gay".
Anyway, I agree with the above posters. Do what you think is best for you and your dog. You can't change other people's minds. But I also agree, don't leave your girl while in heat in the care of someone else. No matter how much you think you trust a person, the bottom line is, it's not their dog.
However, a dog can be fixed too early. I had a foster who was neutered at 4 months. Hardly any of his baby teeth had fallen out at that point, so he ended up with crooked double set of teeth and really bad breath.
