As for the scabs... I'd say keep an eye on it. If it gets bigger, doesn't heal, etc... then take him to the vet to have it checked out. Could be some sort of infection.

Thank you, I have yet to speak to the vet about either issue yet, partly because the last few months have been hectic with moving, and also he seems pretty happy. I'm not sure if the food is causing the gland issue as I've read that small breeds in particular can have these issues no matter what food they eat. He's due for some shots in September, so it won't be that long before he's back at the vet.
