Recipe from Veterinary dietician!! Today I was given a recipe from a vet. dietitian in the UK. Toots has lots of food sensitivities and so I was referred to this dietitian by my vet. The vet told me that he was well respected and lectured at the veterinery college. This is the recipe given for one day:
800g zucchini (Boiled in water without salt and then drained)
200g Raw shredded carrot
20g minced turkey, broiled in pan with no salt or oil
1 and a half tsps. BalanceIt
Divide into 3 or 4 meals during the day
Firstly, how is she going to eat so much zucchini!! It is close to 2lbs of this vegetable per day!! She has never wanted to eat it in the past either. Another thing, I was told years ago by a dietitian (not a pet dietitian) that carrots are the one food that are better cooked, as you can absorb the carotene far better. I assume that this applies to pets as well?
This vet dietitian imports BalanceIt and it is going to cost me a fortune due to postage and import duties! I see that the vet diets site that some of the members are using, is recommending Chef Canine Complete now instead of BalanceIt, which is a lot cheaper. I also notice that it is mentioned on the Chef Canine Complete web page that they mention that the ingredients are not sourced in China (BalanceIt ingredients are sourced in China). Can anyone tell me what the problem is with ingredients sourced in China.
I am concerned about how little protein there is in this new diet, but she is a senior dog and I know they need less protein. What do you think of the amount given and the diet in general? |
