There have been other articles about this. How-ever one hopes the stats being portrayed are accurate and not misleading.

How does one define
a purebred in this study? Other studies have shown that both vets and pounds frequently can not tell by looking at a dog if it is breed x y or z. Anywhere from a 30% rate and above For example my nearest animal licensing facility which is also a shelter - did not even have my breed the Black Russian Terrier on their system - I had to register Magic as a Bouvier........

How ever I do believe that the APPA Animal Pet Products Association probably collects reliable data on the biannual survey of pet owners. In one of the stats that they made public - the full survey costs about $3K to purchase - they state that over 40% of dogs owned by the American public came from neighbours or family friends...... Your oopsy breedings - or I want my cute Mitsy to experience being a mother etc.

So where are all these supposed non pure breeds coming from???

And yes I do believe some shelters will import animals into the USA
