How is it and why, do people associate Nascar (or any other auto sport) to be considered a Redneck sport?

I just truly do not understand where and why a car race is considered a redneck sport? Can anyone clarify this for me?
It's kinda like being called a grease monkey. Cars and accent reflect the invision of 4x4's and alot of mud. Now when i say grease monkey i'm talkin actual grease from a car being repaired. Good ole boys is the best way that i've seen it described so far. IMO.
Now, i drag race,i've been from 0 mph to 130 mph in 5.2 sec. and loved it. not to mention my vision was blurred the first 3 times but never lifted the gas despite the danger. My father raced when i was very young and it became something i loved and have ever since.
Now i have a ?. I'm going racing this whole weekend. What am i?
If i'm a redneck i'll go out on a limb and say that i'm a handsome redneck!!!! thanx.
