He needs to gain trust in his new parents. He has entered a new world of living, here he will live as a dog, and be allowed to run and romp as a dog. Try different toys with him to see what he likes best. Spend time just playing with him, playing I am sure will be new to him and may take a while for him to get it. I adopted a 2.5 y/o lil boy, we are together 20 months. He was gotten for a little 8 y/o little girl, he was trained to be a gentleman, no rough housing. He had no toys as the mom wanted the child to be his only form of play. He was much loved and very spoiled. He was in a crate all day while mom worked and child was in school, so his freedom was limited until mom came home and he was released from the crate. They had to surrender him as mom had a new baby and not enough finances to care for both the dog and infant. When I got him he was like a 5 y/o with a new baby sitter, pushing all my buttons to see what he could get away with lol, well he got away with everything, he wanted to act like a crazy boy, he is a yorkie, filled with energy, so he was allowed to be crazy boy, he jumped on the sofa then would ,look at me as if to say, "hey, I'm on your sofa" lol, I assume he was not allowed on furniture, here he is allowed free roam of the house, this is HIS home, he lives in it as I do. The yard was a great experience for him, freedom off the leash, his first day out he ran like a little grey hound, I could hear him singing "born free" lol. He had to get use to all the liberties he had here in his new home. It took under2 weeks for him to adjust to his new surroundings, toys were new to him, I bought a big selection not knowing what he would like, it took a few days for him to figure what what they were. I took one toy at a time, teased him with it, threw it and he would run to get it, he caught on to what they were. I have him 20 months and I am still leaning new things about him or, I should say, he is leaning new thing about himself, they are all yorkie characteristics. For me it was rewarding to see him transform from a gentleman into the breed he was meant to be. I have had 4 other yorkies so I know the breed. Casey will transform also, remember he was a show dog, not allowed to be a terrier. Shortly you may see a new Casey, the breed he was meant to be. Please keep us updated on his new life with you, and enjoy this little boy.
