Kathy I don't know if this has anything to do with it but you said he has a bad back.

I use to work for a chiropractor. We saw animals also. We had several that could hardly walk and after adjustments they had their tails wagging. One parent had been told the only fix was surgery. I am not saying this is the only cure but it's something to consider.

Not all chiropractors work on animals but mine has flown to Hawaii by the owners request to treat horses on a ranch.
