StewiesMom - I don't think you are a racist, nor do I think you or anyone else called me a redneck (directly anyway). This topic did get pretty heated. I didn't know about the US Congress having to get involved - wow - that is horrible. I can honestly say that when I went to the race, I didn't see it has a southern or redneck thing, as it is said to be - and I guess that is the history of it. We honestly seen people there of all races, all color, all backgrounds, and of every income bracket! Really, I'm not kinding! That is why I was so confused about it being classified as strickly redneck. I guess its past is still playing a big part in the way it is viewed today. I do know of plenty of other activities that the south is known for that I would think is WAY more redneck then a race.
With this being our first race, and us never being involved with Nascar, we didn't know what to expect - especially with all the redneck remarks we got. We are all amazed at all the diversity there and all the things for everyone to do. I'm not kidding, I think most people do not have a clue about it (I know I didn't), but once you go to one, you will see it is different than you might think.
I agree too with the fact that redneck as been and will always be a southern term - as, I suppose Yankee or so on will always be a northern term. It is just that the races are big time and everywhere now. That is the only confusion I have on this topic, but I understand that that was its history and therefore that is what people remember or think of when thinking about a Nascar race.

It's kind of like Jamboree in the Hills, which is pretty huge w/ country music, I'm not a huge Country music fan, but I went to that for 3 years in a row, It's a party its fun,, Expensive fun, but fun. Kind of fun you need to recooperate for days after... It the kind of thing everyone should experience once, if ya can.

Thanks for sharing and I agree! I think it is something that everyone should atleast see and experience for themselves, that way, you could honestly say what you think because you have been there. There is soooo much at a race, I am pretty sure everyone could have something they liked there. I was amazed at the vast array of stars/celebrities that were there or have been to one. Also, they get such big name people there to sing - like BonJovi, etc. That's cool. So I guess for the price it isn't bad, once you figure all the activities there is to do, everything you see and the concerts too.
I wanted to apologize to anyone if I came across as being crazy or horribly angry in my posts on this topic. My husband said that we do all have our opinions and that yes, it would be nice if everyone could experience something before just assuming the worst about it (I agree with that too). He also said that I just got more upset over this topic because the doctor changed my meds and they have affected me differently then others. (No, I'm not insane and have to be on medication, I am at some sort of stage in my life that most women get, where I am just all messed up - anyone out there understand) hee,hee
