I feel it is safer to confine them to an area and not let them have the run of the house. In the event of emergency, they can be found easier and they can get into less trouble. Many babies have been severely injured by chewing thru cords or getting caught on something. I do agree that you can try letting your baby hae run of the place for maybe a couple of hours and see how that works and then add more time. Maybe a nanny-cam could help you watch him and make the decision..
