Go for it. It is the best sport around. There are some small breeds that jump like Jack Russels I once saw a bulldog compete - he was ever so cute and that life jacket he wears is a must - cause bulldogs have negative buoyancy and without it he would just sink.
Lots of border collies labs and goldens do it as well. Today we had two Cheaspeake Bay Retreivers brother n sister - and they couldn't figure out why everyone wanted them out of the water - they wanted to swim with their toy! Beautifull breed.
