You may end up not ever wanting him to have free run of the house.

But, if you want to try it - you should try it for shorter periods of time before you go to work full time. This way you'll have a better idea about how he's going to do (and what he's going to do!!!).

You might try confining him to a larger area. I think I'll probably always confine my Yorkie to the kitchen when I'm gone. This is where he uses his puppy pad (the washroom off the kitchen) - and he certainly isn't very well potty trained elsewhere in the house. AND - I can't leave a bellyband on him for hours while I'm gone. It would be soaked, and he'd probably get a rash before long.
