Unfortunately I've left it a too late now to get Jake's passport and to leave him sleep over for a night with the couple. I've bought him new toys but will give him some old toys, his blanket and anything else to make him feel at home. After this episode, there is no way I'm going to leave him behind me again. Leaving him a blanket he is used to is a great idea. I would probably sleep with a couple blankets, or at least have them in your bed a night or two. Let them get a new blanket out of the bag you bring (even if they are baby blanket size) and the smell of you will keep being fresh. Old toys are great to remind him of home.
Even if he has a rough time, he will be so happy to see you! I watch dogs and they do great with me so I hope he does well and he will be happy when you get back. Maybe you can skype with him there?
Just take care of your partner and he will be fine and thrilled when you get home. I hope everything goes well.
