Default Bear's nose is red and raw from itching

My little guy is 8 months old and for the past 2 months or so the skin around his nose has been consistently red from his scratching.

I took him to the vet and they suggested that he may be allergic to chicken which I had been boiling and adding to his already chicken flavored Purina Beyond dry food so he would eat it. They prescribed an anti-histamine, I changed his food to Blue turkey flavor, and stopped adding boiled chicken.

It has been 4 days since he has had any chicken and has been taking his pill daily. I guess he is itching a little bit less but his poor little nose skin is still red and the hair is beginning to thin out.

Should I give it a couple more days? I don't want to go back to the vet and spend another mini fortune so I am looking for alternative suggestions. Is it possible that he is allergic to poultry in general so his new food is no good either? I heard maybe I should try something with fish?

Anything topical will probably be licked off within seconds.

Help please
