My Duncan is 8 months old and weighs 11 lbs. On TY, there is a Teapot Club whose members are yorkies over standard weight. Just because your baby weighs 17 lbs. does NOT mean he is not a yorkie. There are yorkies on here who are in the teens and 20's lbs.
I would go back to PetSmart and tell them that your puppy IS a yorkie and you did not appreciate being told he wasn't one because he was too big to be one. Maybe you can be the person that educates them that yorkies come in all shapes and sizes instead of just 'small'. And let them know that you want to be refunded the difference that you paid for being told your yorkie was a 'random' breed.
