Dementia? Our precious little 13 year old toy poodle, who we have had since she was 8 weeks old, has been diagnosed with sclerosis in both eyes do to age. However, I am wondering if she doesn't have early stages of dementia due to her recent behavioral changes we have been observing, etc, growling and barking a lot at the two other fur butts in the house and sometimes appearing lost. She has always been very alert and extremely calm and gentle with everyone and all animals. She does have some back leg joint issues and is on joint supplement. Her heart checks out to be very healthy. Her recent yearly check up went well. She is on heart guard and flea prevention and has been on both for years. I know her behavioral changes could be do to her decrease in vision, as the vet which we trust stated, but is there anything we can do if she does have the beginning of dementia as in medication. We already keep the furniture, food and water bowls, pet beds etc in same place. She remains playful, eats well, urinates & poos as usual, very loving and is Mommy and Daddy's precious baby. Your advice is appreciated. Thank you.
