The staff at the vet's office should be able to take care of the nails. Remember, if they are overgrown it will take some time (and many frequent trims) to get them back to the correct length. A dog's nails aren't meant to be cut down all at once if they are overgrown.

Keep trying at home, even if you don't actually trim the nails. Just keep trying to get your baby comfortable with having feet, paw pads, and nails touched and handled.
