Olivia just got out of ICU today...she was admitted on Friday. Fortunately she responded to meds quickly; but once again scared the you know what out of me.
Here last illness is here and there is an original link on that thread as well:

Her original diagnosis was in May 2014 and last hospitalization was April 2014. I spoke briefly with the specialist today about what do to in the future because this seems to just keep sneaking up on us. We are not sure if it is all due to her gall stone (they do hold infection) or if there is something in her liver (she would need a biopsy). Those things could be done or just continue to keep a close eye on her and perhaps have her bilirubin checked frequently.
This episode started like the others. She didn't eat on Thursday. She seemed ok so I opted to see how she did the next day. Friday morning, she went under my bed and would not come out to eat.

I took her straight to the vet and her liver enzymes were all elevated...her bilirubin was extremely high. The suspicion was a possible blockage due to the gall stones. I took her straight to the specialists and she was admitted, dehydrated and jaundiced. The ultrasound showed liver inflammation but thankfully no blockage of the bile duct and the gall bladder was fine other than a large stone. IVF and antibiotics were immediately started and by the next day she was showing improvement and eating! Her bilirubin is now normal. They did not do the liver enzymes again since it takes longer for those to come down...she will follow up in 5 - 7 days.
I was not going to post this but then started thinking about people who come here saying their pup has not eaten for a couple of days and what can they do to get them to eat. Not eating is usually a problem and the anorexia is but a symptom....had I not taken her when I did I believe she would have become so much sicker and been in the ICU longer. Her WBC was not even elevated yet!! So, caught early.
For her future...I don't know for sure what I will do. I really need to speak with the vets in more depth about this whole thing. Putting a 12 year old through a liver biopsy is not something I am keen on especially since she also has some renal issues. We shall see.
