Default Kennel cough or collapsed trachea?

Hi.. Our little yorkie is 7 months old. We purchased him about 3 months ago and when we purchased him we were told he has a little cough but it wasn't nothing major.. The cough kept getting worse so we had to keep taking him to the vet.. They'd give medicine.. This happened 4 times and he still wasn't better! He's currently on hydrocone for dogs and something called doxy I can't recall the full name of it.. This medicine helps him but when he gets excited he'll still cough and I heard that's a sign of collapsed trachea? His nose is never wet.. Im honestly just worried.. This dog is my everything right now and i don't know what id do if I lost him.. Do dogs with this problem have a short life span?

Sorry for all of the questions. I just don't know what to do anymore.. I'm losing hope
