Btw... How does one find out if a breeders' yorkies are really AKC? I end up seeing alot of advertisements for AKC yorkie puppies, but the breeder doesnt offer papers of any sort, not even limited. Especially, after they advertise that the parents are all AKC that comes from champion lines. And the parents don't really fit the standards that well. Is this a red flag? Should I just RUN?
Thanks again and much appreciated! I really like and appreciate this forum! The help is awesome! |
Being with the AKC is not enough, they are a registry and only are concerned about whether the dogs are full blood and a breeders has the breeding rights to breed the dog. This is just the first step in finding a quality breeder. I always recommend the Yorkshire Club of American (YTCA). They are a group of breeders who are suppose to be breeding to improve the breed and by and large they are quality breeders. Here's some of the Michigan breeders who belong to the YTCA.
Dog Breeders Map List- The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Check them out, ask about their breeding programs and find out why they decided to breed. You can learn a lot about the breed from a good breeder. Also check out this thread, it will give you lots of good information in choosing a quality breeder.
