Too smart for their own good We have been teaching the puppies several commands, like sit, hold (stay), down. Also stay (means do not leave the crate, or do not go outside). Leave it. Stuff like that.
In our backyard we let them be off leash and we have been teaching them "Grass" which means they needs to be in the grassy part of the yard. If they go in the mulch we tell them grass and put them back in the grass. If they go in the sand (soon to be a patio) we tell them grass, etc. The driveway is gravel so if they get in the bottom of it we tell them grass.
Anyway, Raksha is really getting this concept. We had all the dogs out there and although Teek had a harness on leash on he was walking around dragging the leash as I often let him do in the backyard. Teek went to play with the puppies but they both jumped him so he ran off into the sand part of the yard to get away. Rowan went to look at something else and Raksha chased him. We said "grass" and she came running back onto the grass. She looked and saw Teek just standing in the sand and she ran back into the sand and grabbed his leash and pulled him back into the grass and then dropped the leash and ran off to play with Rowan. Hard to yell at them when they are making the other dog obey.
Rowan however ran into a plastic lawn chair and cried. I ran over and picked him up and he continued to cry. We took the dogs in and I stood him up and he wouldn't stand right on one of his back legs, but just a few minutes later he was running around and everything was fine. he does this if he is bumped at all. Do I just have a wimpy dog? Do I rush in and pick him up to quickly? He seems like he is becoming a drama king. he is the smallest of my animals, but Raksha is not that much bigger and she can take a lot more tumbles than he can.
I do think Raksha is too good for her own good though. She is the first one to learn a new command and she is just amazing at how much she seems to understand!
