It's hard to say if what you have described is separation anxiety since symptoms are variable and sustained over time.
My Teddy has separation anxiety and pants, paces, pees on the front door, marks from anxiety, howls, poops and stomps in it for hours whilst jumping up and down in the same spot....etc. He displayed this behavior over a number of months. There is no way I could let him roam free when I'm away because it would be unsafe for him and my house would be destroyed.
Therefore, I'd suggest just keeping an eye on it over the next couple of weeks and then consider the source of the problem. Also, if you did get this little guy from the shelter, contact them to ask for a referral to a behaviorist for the other issues. I have recommended that another member do the same with their adopted dog and had wonderful feedback regarding the positive results and cooperation of the shelter. |
