They spent over 3K on their dog to have a pacemaker put in due to heart issues because of the disease. There was also an article posted in the Pocono Record last year of a boy who actually died of RMSF. No one has actually died due to RMSF in the state of PA in 25 years.
According to the local vets, it is still rare, but, in the past 5 years they have seen more exposure and illness due to RMSF than they have seen in 2 decades. It is around so be careful!
