I know people who use Pantene and other human hair products on their dogs consistently (including exhibitors who use Redken) and they have no problems. Their coats are beautiful.
Some of the downsides were listed above: pH difference, ingredients including silicones and sulfates (which many dog products have).
I've used my Pantene shampoo and conditioner on Max and Teddy in a pinch. I didn't care for the results. Their coats were not as silky soft.
