Poor Gatsby! The moisturizer might actually be weakening his paw pads, softening them too much, making them more vulnerable. What brand is the moisturizer?
Max once had a crack in one of his pads and the scar is still slightly visible. I used "Bag Balm" to help him heal. WalMart sometimes carries it in their pet section.

I didn't use it long-term or on his entire pad to avoid softening too much. I was also worried about him licking it.
I wonder if "Musher's Secret" would help?
