She didnt get the "shot"....she got the "nasal drops". That is a live vaccine and it quite frequently gives dogs kennel cough. Not so much incidence with the injection. Because of this and how distressing it is for the pup, as well as the extra cost of treating it with antibiotics to prevent pneumonia, and because there are hundreds of strains of bordatello and the vaccine only is effective against 4-6 of the strains, and since to be really effective, the vaccine needs to be done at least every 6 months, many of us choose not to even go there. Some people had pups suffer with this and it can take months to cure.....rather than risk giving it to their pups again, they choose to groom themselves or use mobile groomers.....and they opt for pet sitters rather than boarding. Vets frequently will not admit that the nasal drops can give the kennel cough because they dont want to fell like they may be held responsible and thus should provide the antibiotics needed to treat any pneumonias that arise from it.
