I agree with Ann, I go by body condition when determining how much food is enough.
My boys have both become fast eaters. Max doesn't self-regulate at all anymore, and Teddy barely. Given the opportunity, they would both continue eating until they were sick -- unless there was something more exciting to do. If we are outside of the house, they are not food driven.
At home, the desire for food is greater because it is tied to fun and attention. The boys will keep doing things for rewards, even if it is something small like brown-nosing with smiles/head tilts in the kitchen while we are cooking.
