It sounds like the poor little puppy is lonely. I don't really understand why the crate can't be in someones bedroom. And I really don't think you are spoiling a puppy by giving it extra attention. In fact I think puppies require a lot of extra time and attention. I couldn't imagine having a little baby and expecting it to amuse themselves for over 15 hours a day of their young life. The more interaction you have early on, the more sociable the little one is as he grows up.. Giving space when they need time to themselves is a different thing.
