It's really totally up to you. If you have only the one pup, then free feeding is really easy and convenient - and most dogs raised on free feeding don't overeat unless there is something going on (ie like Cushings). Since she's underweight, you may want to free feed so that she can take advantage of any time she'd like to graze.

I feed at meal times 2x a day - but I have 4 dogs, lol, so it's a little tougher to free feed here. Plus, our Wylie has Cushings and even though it's managed, he still has an overactive appetite.
