Like Ashton/CoopersMom, I have 2 boys. They are both strong males, but get along great.
Judging from all the Yorkie pairs and multiples here and elsewhere, I do not think there is any advantage in genders. It really comes down to the individual dogs and whether they go together well.
My boys did not meet until the day we picked up the 2nd. Generally, if you can, it is nice to meet on 'neutral' ground (not inside your home), but this isn't necessary. Lots of people bring home their 2nd puppy without problem.
