Hello All,
Joined not long ago, just want to let you all know about what happened to my only 5 month old Yorkie, Zeus.
Last night he was running around the backyard really fast, I was getting read to go inside and he came running after me. He undershot the patio ledge (it is about 5 inches off the ground) and ran full force into it, breaking his front elbow. I have never heard a dog scream and cry in that way. It was just awful. I picked him up right away and took him straight to the vet. In hindsight, I should've just taken him to the emergency, but I thought my vet had the emergency services (I didn't realize that they didn't). I could've at least saved myself the cost for that visit and xrays there, since I had to do it again at the emergency.
He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning (was supposed to be this afternoon but they got in another emergency that was more of an urgency

). I can't even describe how awful it was to see him in that pain, and to even see him now. He is completely doped up and is nothing like the little puppy that he is.
It was also a hard decision to make - yes, I understand he's our family, but it's still a lot of money, and no we won't be going with pet insurance as we don't feel it's for us - but ultimately, he's our family and we're going ahead with the procedure. If anyone is curious, when it's all said and done, surgery, tests, overnight stay etc will amount to $5,500 or so.
I am hoping he has a fast recovery and that he does recover.
