Unfortunately I dealing with rescue dogs with limited history I have had experience with parvo. I have also had 2 fully immunized dogs who contracted parvo. One made it, one didn't. They usually require IV support and time to allow the intestines to heal, then start feeding slowy with a high calorie relatively bland diet. AD is what my vet uses during the recovery phase and it seems to work well. We also use tamiflu. The dosage is 1 mg/pound every 12 hours for 10 doses. If no response, such as decreased amount of vomiting or stools increase to 2 mg/pound for the remaining doses. It must be given within 48 hours of onset to optimize effectiveness. One the dog is having bloody stools the effectiveness decreases. You can also use as a preventative if your dog has been exposed but the snap test is negative, then you would use 1mg /pound once a day for 5 days. Tamiflu is NOT a cure, just additional support while the body heals. I personally have had all my dogs parvo titers done. There is no mixing of rescues until they have been in isolation for 2 weeks. It's easier to prevent than cure. |
