I am so sorry to hear of Socks' passing. I know it is hard (I went through it last summer) and it will take a long time to stop hurting so badly but you can take comfort in the fact that Socks is no longer in pain. I am happy to hear that you were with him and were holding him when he passed. I know that has to mean a lot to you. Even though your mom gave in and was going to allow the vet to come put Socks down, I think this way was better because it shows that it was Socks' time to go and you don't ever have to second guess putting him to sleep.
