Sounds like he's being protective and confused if it's a threat or not. He needs to see you interacting more with people to realize it's not a big deal. Don't hold him, just ignore him while you talk to someone and he'll eventually get used to seeing you with other humans. Holding him and showing stress that he might attack will only get him worked up. My dog was the same way with my partner. Also if your dog is socialized with humans and other dogs it'll help.
