I'm no vet, but at 15 years of age it could easily be age related. Our vet has had Sammie on the Royal Canin Urinary SO food now for 6 months and it has helped a lot. The accidents are not as frequent, and usually he catches himself as it starts, and runs to the door where we let him out and he finishes what got started in the house. We are taking him out much more frequently just for good measure and that helps. I'm also taking him out just before we go to bed, and he usually lasts the night without incident.
Since I started this thread back in late September or early October, Sammie's eye sight has all but gone and he has great hearing loss as well. On the positive side, his spirit has rebounded and still finds interest and fun in the day.
All that said, it is heartbreaking to see the decline in his health and life. I would give anything to be able to reverse the course, but as we all know that just isn't possible. So we work hard to make each day a good one for him, and we count our blessings for the beautiful love, joy and laughter he has brought to our home now for almost 15 years.
Good luck to you and your Yorkie. Keep us posted. |
