I don't know if this would work for you - and it for sure is not the ideal solution, but if I am in a hurry doing a quick potty walk before I need to leave the house and don't have time for the lingering sniffing, I will pick maggie up, walk a few paces and putter back down and she seems to continue on with the walk most of the time.
