OK. I am not trying to start any arguments here but I am confused. I thought I have seen in multiple threads that "by product meal" is not the best choice of ingredients. I have seen many people recommend Royal Canin so I was looking at the ingredients today at Petsmart. The 3rd ingredient was chicken by product. We currently feed Max & Sasha Eukanuba Excel Adult Maintenance Lamb & Rice Formula because it advertises no chicken by products, no corn and no fillers. The ingredients are:

Lamb, Brewers Rice, Oat Flour, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Chicken Meal, Ground Whole Grain Barley, Fish Meal (source of fish oil), Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Dried Egg Product, Dried Beet Pulp, Chicken Flavor, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Fructooligosaccharides, Choline Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Carbonate), DL-Methionine, Flax Meal, Vitamins (Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin, Riboflavin Supplement (source of vitamin B2), Inositol, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Brewers Dried Yeast, Vitamin E Supplement, L-Carnitine, Beta-Carotene, Rosemary Extract

I am not looking to change their food because they both like it, their poop is good (believe me they have no problem pooping!) and we don't have any problems. But I just want to make sure I am doing my homework and giving them the best food possible. I have also seen it mentioned that quality control not ingredients should be the main concern and that makes sense.

I am sure there is no one absolute "best" food as every dog is different so I know I cannot get a cut and dry answer but all friendly opinions are greatly appreciated!
