We treat our yard too and don't have a problem on the ground, but our neighborhood is really woodsy, native trees. The ticks fall out of the trees. I have to check myself after working in parts of our yard.
Strangely, we saw quite a few ticks when we lived in the Chicago suburbs with manicured lawns. We had to constantly check our Airedale. Yorkies are much easier to check.
