I use the x-pen for the puppy, 5 months, but put the pee pad in the plastic holder, can't rip it and his toys are all over the pen, clean it every night. I leave water and food in weighted feed bowls, Tuck can't move them. I never let any of my three dogs have freedom when I go out. I feel that they are safe in a restricted area when I'm gone. I leave two in the kitchen, gated and a battery radio on. The puppy stays in an x-pen in the bedroom.
