It's an instant messaging service which doesn't reveal your phone number because you go by a screen name. The benefits are that you can text friends and family for free, send pics and videos for free, too. I guess it's only a benefit if you have a text limit on your plan or pic messaging limit, for example. But, my hubby has unlimited internet usage away from home but limited text. I have unlimited text but can't picture message (without additional cost). Using KIK, we can message each other all day without worrying about going over limits.
Also, since I'm in England, it doesn't cost to message my parents with messages, videos and photos to the US.
