I just bought a gate for our front porch. It is metal. It will be used on a covered porch so it will see some weather, but not a lot of direct rain on it. My opening is huge so I had to get an extra wide gate for it. You can find lots of gates that swing open, look for a top of stairs gate and it should swing open.
I would look on Amazon and see if you can find something that will work well for your opening. I got mine off Amazon and I can't wait until we get it installed. We have to modify our opening as I knew when I ordered it that it was actually 6 inches too short for the opening, but we had plans to make it work. Our opening is 78 inches so it is just huge.
You should be able to find a really nice looking gate fairly cheap that can go there. I will love having my gate so I can have the dogs out on the porch with me during the day and not worry about them running in the street.
