My personal experience with dogs is one female and however many males I happen to have.

I currently have a 4 year old male english setter who is very mellow and laid back.

I have a 9 year old Yorkie who is also very mellow.

Getting a male and female puppy this month. Will only be 1 female and I bet she rules the house in no time. I don't even know which of my current males is top dog because neither one tries to be. I am alpha female and my husband is alpha male and all they know is that they are below him and otherwise they just co-exist well together. The yorkie is a bit afraid of playing with the setter, although the yorkie has tried a couple times. I hope he will play with the puppies when they arrive.

I say go for it and get another puppy and either gender should work out well, but if you get a girl now I would only add males to your household, even fixed I have had trouble when I had 2 females. Usually I have one of each, but the Yorkie was a surprise and it has worked out great.
