I wouldn't leave an adult alone w/ a puppy until you feel that if they play together and get a little rough, that the puppy will still be okay...bc an adult could accidentally hurt a puppy.
I don't do crate training at all bc all of my dogs just *hate* the crate, so I can't do it to them. I used an Iris Pen and it worked awesome! It has enough room for a pee pad, a bed, food/water, and a couple toys - perfect for a puppy in training.
As far as marking, it's impossible to predict how yours will be, honestly.
