My dogs were 8 years old when I purchased my puppy Teddy. Teddy was really easy going and lazy (and still is) and never bothered the others. They did not accept him at first, but about a month after he came, my female started to play with him. Eventually, the older male accepted him and I felt it safe for all to hang out while I was away. I felt that the older dogs helped him "learn the rules" but I confine them to one room when I'm out.
