Recently, fearing my pup (3 year old) may have a UTI, I took her to the vet. After testing her urine, her pH level came back at 5. Tested her urine again two weeks later and it is now at 5.5. He informed me the range we want to be in is between 6-7. With fears of calcium oxalate issues and surgery, he thought it was best to change her diet. He wants to put her on Royal Canin.
I have always been on the fence with RC, I never know if it's good or not (recalls, ingredients, etc). I have been giving her Fromm (practically) since the beginning. Any info would be extremely helpful. |
I don't know if I would want to change my dog's food because of a pH level without knowing if the dog was a stone maker. I have a dog that is a stone maker and can tell you his pH runs high. So pH is only one factor. My dog didn't like the RC SO kibble and I felt the canned was too high in fat for him. Just my view, so I home cook. We are almost a year stone free after a procedure to remove stones (not surgery but a less invasive procedure) and so far his home cooked diet is keeping him stone free. I'll find out in three weeks if this is still the case.
