Just got back from vet...she did a "slide" test where they press the thin glass against the owy. Bacterial infection had just started. She was surprised how nasty it looked but said even though she was doped up withe the Benedryl I gave her to tolerate the visit , she could tell that was the area of most concern to the poor little thing. Anywhere else touched ( ear check , rectal temp done, eye exam) her neck owy she did not want touched.
I was given an antibiotic to give twice a day and she got a cortizone shot to relieve the cycle of itching...even though I put neosporin ointment on it and she liked the clothe idea wrapped around her neck and taped . She was miserable.
So she's resting comfortable now.
